Make Love in Seattle

Romantic Things To Do

Go Rollerblading or Biking

Green Lake is a great place to learn how to rollerblade. There are always lots of people there, but it's a very pretty place with a great path around the lake, and everyone is usually very friendly. There are several businesses in the surrounding area which rent rollerblades and bicycles, and you are bound to see many beginners and couples rolling around. Green Lake is located just off North Aurora.

For bicycles, I love the Burke-Gilman trail. It starts up in Kenmore just off of Bothell Way, and winds around Lake Washington to the south, ending up at the U.W. There, you can continue to follow a nice easy trail to Gasworks Park and Lake Union, or you can go the other, strenuous, traffic-ridden, difficult to follow way, which I believe leads to Discovery Park. You'll see lots of people on a nice day, but not as many as some other places, and there are still many secluded spots along the way. It's an easy bike ride for any level of ability, and you get to ride practically through the backyards of some of the most beautiful lakefront homes in the area. On hot summer days, there is a public beach park on the trail.

Play Tourist

Some of the most romantic spots in Seattle are considered too touristy for some of the locals, but it can be really fun to ride to the top of the Space Needle, or take the Underground Tour. The Pike Place Market is another place full of possibilities, and the Seattle Art Museum often has pretty exciting exhibits. Or, check out the Museum of Flight.

Events

I think events make great dates. Sure, they're crowded, but there are thousands of people having fun! And having fun together is very romantic. Besides, there is nothing like being alone in a crowd.

The Seattle International Film Festival--held annually from mid-May until mid-June

Bumbershoot--Every Labor Day weekend in the Seattle Center

One Reel produces several events in the Puget Sound area, including the AT&T Family Fourth celebration. Fireworks...need I say more?

Nightlife

I don't generally think of bars as terribly romantic places to go. Generally, the dance clubs are crowded, loud and rude. It's hard to find a nice, quiet spot with a liquor license. However, if you have a nice singing voice, and would like to show it off in a serenade, I recommend Sorry Charlie's, which is located near the bottom of Queen Anne at the corner of Mercer and Queen Anne. It's a piano bar that is generally not terribly crowded, and it doesn't resemble a karaoke bar in any way. There's an old man playing the piano, and a microphone sitting there that people just go pick up and sing into. You won't see a crowd of drunks who have decided that alcohol gives them talent--everyone who picks up that microphone can sing well. You also won't see a bunch of overzealous divas trying to hog the spotlight--everyone seems to show respect and consideration for one another. And that piano player is very good...he seems to know thousands of songs in just about every key. So, if you want to woo your sweetie with an old standard, and you can do it, I suggest you check it out.

Ballroom Dancing--one of the most romantic dates I can think of. The Century Ballroom offers classes and regularly scheduled events.
